Known for its International Music Festival, the Eisteddfod, Llangollen in northeast Wales has another jewel in its crown: white water tubing. The banks of the River Dee, right on its doorstep, is where you’ll find the Llangollen Outdoors White Water Centre. This is a company who relish the spirit of open air adventure and are only too pleased to share it.
Where better than this beautiful part of Denbighshire to experience this unique river sport. One which combines both the adrenalin rush of riding the River Dee’s rapids feet first with the contrast of some of Wales’ glorious scenery in one convenient package. If you’re up for the challenge, a real adventure awaits. Transport upstream is included in the package, and after your safety and equipment briefing, you’ll be off on a 3 km trip of a lifetime.
The River Dee is at its highest after rainfall far longer than most others in Britain. This, combined with Llangollen Outdoors’ access from March to the end of October, means white water is never in short supply. Each tubing adventure lasts for more than three hours twice daily, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the experience.
Age is no real restriction. Tubing with the Outdoors Centre is available for everyone from 12 years upwards. They supply all necessary equipment. All you need to bring is old footwear – preferably trainers, a towel and swimming costume. Llangollen Outdoors provide first aid facilities, changing rooms and the chance to relax after an exhilarating day.
Llangollen offers a wide variety of lodging while you experience the thrills and spills on the river. It’s brimming with self catering, hotels, B&B and guest houses. Next to the River Dee are the Riverside Mews. These quiet self catering apartments are ideal as they are close to all the town’s amenities. The Riverside Walk – dating from Victorian times – is a great place for a stroll. For full details call 01978-861451.
With their activity breaks, corporate events and stag and hen “do’s,” Llangollen Outdoors offer a wide variety of packages. If you’re needing guidance or tuition, their instructors are thoroughly trained and assessed, so your safety and security is assured.
Their 25 years’ experience, enthusiasm and sheer enjoyment of what they do is what sets them apart. For the thrills and excitement of tubing on the Dee’s white water rapids, they are well worth checking out. You’ll find them at Mile End Mill or you can call 01978-897220 for more details.
